I spent my early childhood in Northern California, and then moved with my family to Los Angeles, as the oldest of three. I attended Westlake School for Girls (now Harvard-Westlake). Back then girls were not always encouraged to pursue the sciences or medical careers, but in high school I excelled in mathematics and the sciences. I attended Stanford University, where I graduated in 1974 with my B.S. in Medical Microbiology.
I enjoyed research, but had my heart set on medicine because I really love the personal interaction with patients. I went to medical school at the University of Southern California where I earned my M.D. in 1978. I did my internship and residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Obstetrics/Gynecology, drawn to the field because I especially love working with women and being part of their important life events. On the first day of my internship I met my husband, Michael Reynard, M.D., who has had an ophthalmology practice for the last 30+ years in Santa Monica. I have two daughters. My eldest is a clinical health psychologist in Chicago, and my youngest is a writer here in Los Angeles.
I'm also dedicated to community service. For many years I've served on the volunteer staff of the Venice Family Clinic, providing ultrasound to patients who don't have insurance. I'm passionate about teaching and supervising medical students, interns, and residents at the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and I have a clinical faculty appointment as an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA. Teaching new doctors at Harbor-UCLA has special meaning for me, since I spent four years at Harbor-UCLA for my own internship and residency. I served as President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association (Bay District 5) from 2011-2012, leading conversations about best practices for our patients and oft-overlooked physician self-care.
I'm named by my peers as an outstanding physician and received recognition as one of the Super Doctors in Southern California.
I’m also a contributor and medical reviewer at AWARES and Community Nurse Health Center.
When I'm not doing something medicine-related, I can be found wearing my pager on the tennis court.
